Key points
- Your website feeds your profile's relevance
- Each service needs its own page to rank for it
- You own a website, while a profile can be suspended
- Google's free Business Profile websites were shut down in 2024
What the profile cannot do
A profile has room for a short description and a list of services. It cannot rank for the hundreds of specific searches a good site can, such as a repair for one brand of appliance in one suburb.
How the two work together
Google uses your linked website to understand and trust your business. A site with clear service pages, your location details and consistent contact information strengthens the profile's prominence. A weak or missing site limits how far the profile can go.
What a local business website needs at minimum
- A page for each main service, written for the way customers search.
- Your name, address and phone number in the footer, identical to your profile.
- Click-to-call buttons and a short enquiry form on every page.
- Real photos of your team and work instead of stock images.
- Fast loading on a phone, since most local searches happen there.
- Reviews or testimonials, and structured data so Google can read the details.
A site like this does not need to be large. Ten good pages that match your services will outperform fifty thin ones, and they give your profile something solid to be judged against.
Own your presence
A profile lives on Google's platform, under Google's rules, and can be suspended. A website is an asset you control. It also gives you tracking, forms and a place to send traffic from ads and social channels.

How should an electrician describe their license on their website?
Say exactly who holds the license, what kind it is and the number, and make sure it matches the state lookup. If you work under another electrician's or a company's license, say so plainly instead of writing "licensed master electrician" about yourself. A website implying a license you don't personally hold has already cost one electrician his Google Business Profile for about seven months.

Why do emergency dental patients leave one-star reviews after a limited exam?
Because they booked expecting the tooth to be fixed and left with a diagnosis, an X-ray, a bill and another appointment. The visit did what it was meant to do, but nobody told them what that was. Explain what a limited exam includes, what it costs and what usually needs a second visit on the phone, in the confirmation, on your website and at check-in.
Why did Google reject my website URL on my Business Profile?
Google doesn't say, but the cause is usually one of a few things: the link redirects to another address, it's a social or booking page rather than your own site, the site won't load cleanly, or the site shows a different name, address or phone from the profile. Enter the final https address of your own homepage, match the details, and resubmit once other edits have cleared.

Can an agency's restricted Google account get my profile suspended?
Yes. If an agency, freelancer or vendor with access to your listing has its Google account restricted, Google can suspend every profile connected to that account, and yours goes with it. The notice says a Google account associated with the profile was restricted. Proving your address won't fix it: remove the account, have the agency resolve its restriction, and appeal on that point.

Can you appeal a Google review decision more than once?
No. You get one appeal on each review Google decides not to remove, and once the appeal is denied, that decision is final for that review. Wait for the first decision before appealing, and only appeal with new evidence tied to a specific policy clause. After that, your options are a calm public reply, reporting new reviews from the same accounts, and outnumbering the review with genuine ones.
