Google brings back view counts for Business Profile posts

Google Business Profile posts show view counts again, labeled “people viewed”, after the metric was removed in 2023. See which posts your customers notice.

What happened

A “people viewed” count for Google Business Profile posts began appearing for some accounts around August 20. Google had removed post insights in January 2023, and later confirmed the return in its help documentation.

Why it matters

For three years there was no way to tell whether anyone saw your posts. With a view count you can learn which offers and updates earn attention, and stop guessing.

What to do

  • Open your profile and check whether post views are showing
  • Record views for each post over the next month
  • Repeat the topics and formats that get the most views
  • Keep posting weekly so there is enough data to compare

The details

The feature was first spotted by Muhammad Hussain on a limited number of accounts and reported on August 20. According to the coverage, the metric counts how many times local customers viewed a post across Google Search and Google Maps, applies to all post types, and draws on rolling performance data. Google has recently added view counts to photos and videos too.

Our read

This is a small change that improves decisions. Posts were easy to neglect because nothing showed whether they worked. We post weekly for clients and will now use view counts to decide what to post more of. If you are unsure how often to post, see our answer on how often to post on a Business Profile.
