Key points
- Ads are fast and stop the moment you stop paying
- SEO is slower and keeps producing after the work is done
- Use ads to cover the gap while SEO builds
- Track calls from each channel separately
What each one is good at
Google Ads and Local Services Ads put you in front of buyers immediately, which suits a new business, a slow season, or a service with high margins. The cost per click tends to rise over time, and the leads end with the budget.
Why SEO wins over time
A ranking in the map pack or organic results does not charge per click. The work you pay for in month three is still producing calls in month twelve. That compounding is why the long-run cost per lead is usually lower.
How to split a small budget
- Put the first money into fixing the profile and website, since every channel lands there.
- If the phone is quiet, run tightly targeted search ads or Local Services Ads for your best service only.
- Start SEO at the same time, even at a modest level, so the clock is running.
- Record where each call came from, using call tracking or by asking.
- Each quarter, move budget toward whichever channel gives the lower cost per booked job.
One caution on ads: Google changes the rules. From October 2026, Local Services Ads will charge for some missed calls, so make sure someone answers the phone during business hours before you spend on them.
A sensible order
Fix your Business Profile and website first, because both channels send people there. Then run ads for cash flow while the local SEO work matures. Review the split every quarter using real call data.

Is Houzz Pro worth it for remodelers?
Only if the contract and the lead numbers both hold up. Remodelers reviewing Houzz Pro describe a plan sold as monthly but invoiced around $4,000 a year up front, about two leads a month that were mostly low quality, and a 30% price rise at renewal they couldn't opt out of. Get the billing, renewal and notice terms in writing and work out how many signed jobs you need before you pay.

Can phone and computer repair shops advertise on Google Ads?
Usually not. Google Ads restricts third-party phone repair and treats computer and electronics repair as third-party consumer technical support, so independent shops get rejected. Diamond Product Expert Rob Skelton's whole answer to one shop was "No. You cannot advertise." Shops were still being rejected in 2025. Stop resubmitting and move the budget to your Google Business Profile, repair pages, published prices and reviews.

Is buying addiction treatment leads legal under EKRA?
It can be, but how you pay decides it. EKRA makes paying for referrals to addiction treatment a federal crime, it covers private insurance, and in 2025 the Ninth Circuit confirmed it reaches marketing intermediaries. Paying per admission or per patient is where the risk sits, with penalties up to $200,000 and 10 years per occurrence. Have a healthcare lawyer review any lead deal. This is not legal advice.

Why doesn't my business show up when people search its exact name?
Usually because Google either can't tie your profile to your business as a clear entity, or it has confused you with another business with a similar name and sometimes merged the two. Open your profile's share link on a signed-out phone: if it opens your profile, strengthen your name, phone and website signals; if it opens another business, it's a data problem to escalate with proof.

Why do LegitScript-certified rehab ads get zero impressions?
Certification lets addiction ads run, but it doesn't make them win. Zero impressions usually means the certification isn't applied to the account and domain your ads use, a campaign targets a country where certified ads can't serve, your bids are far below the rehab market, or specific keywords aren't allowed to trigger. Check those four in that order, then take screenshots to Google Ads support.
